Eating gluten-free in Charlotte, NC

Tracy, my gluten-free girlfriend (GF-GF, if you will) is coming to town this week.  For reference, here’s a picture of Tracy from her last visit to Charlotte:

Last time Tracy visited, we quickly realized there are TONS of “gluten-free friendly” restaurants in Charlotte, but far fewer actually post their gluten-free options on the web.  So, I’ve been in research mode over the past couple of weeks and pulled together the list below, which links to each restaurant’s GF menu and/or a menu that indicates which items are gluten-free.

Know of a Gluten-free restaurant in Charlotte that I missed?  Leave me a comment with a link to the menu below!

  1. Thank you Mae for putting together such a wonderful variety of food options! So accommodating…my stomach thanks you 😀

I love how you put up my “bug” pic…..it really helps capture my personality, lol

  2. When I first found out about GF, I was so shocked to find out that so many things include Gluten in the ingredients list. I’m so glad Charlotte is gettin’ with it! =D

  3. Thank you for posting this. My daughter is on a GF diet and we are always challenged in finding restaurants that are GF friendly. Mellow Mushroom is her favorite pizza place. Just so you know, PF Chang’s also has an extensive GF menu and Outback has some items as well.

    Thanks again!!!

  4. FARMERS BBQ your local smokehouse in University City on Mallard Creek has many items which are gluten free. All their smoked meats including Hand Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken, Sliced Angus Beef Brisket, Baby Back Ribs and Smoked WIngs are ALL gluten free. They also make ALL their own sauces and can tell you what is in each one, their are only 2/13 sauces that are NOT gluten free, which means 11 sauces ARE GLUTEN FREE! order online at http://farmersbbq.com

  5. Hawthorne’s has excellent gluten free pizza as well as gluten free pasta options (and gluten free beer to go with that pizza).

Also, the gluten free flapjacks at Toast are delish!

  6. I know that 5 Church offers some, and if they know you’re coming in advance, they’ll even prepare something special for you! We’re looking for a gf choice of fine dining between Billy Graham Library and Rock Hill. Suggestions?

    1. Joana, there are a couple of reasonable restaurants in Ayrsley where I-485 and Tryon cross (exit 1). My Celiac wife eats pretty safely at Salsa’s (Mexican) and Wild Wings Café, although they don’t have GF menus. Another option is Red Bowl Asian Fusion near Tega Cay, which has a very good GF menu of “Chinese” food and sushi.
